When visual expressions are no longer limited to brushes and canvasses, new art forms such as sand or water art demonstrates how the drawing process itself can be an engaging artistic experience captured and spread by Internet video.  Here Tudou introduces a water art original video “Dunhuang” from which the visual movements and imagery developments are almost like lyrics to a song.

Depicting impressions of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, China with a strong favor of oriental culture along the ancient Silk Road, the artist paints a desert on water.  With a few dips and a gentle wave, ripples of paint become a boundless desert, where camel caravan tracks along sand dunes under the hot desert sun.  They pass through the Buddhism landmark of Dunhuang, the White Horse Pagoda, which turns into the serene face of the Buddha. Layers of impressions characterized Dunhuang as an important Silk Road city with rich Budhhist religious heritage. The painting ends with the flying goddesses, the most salient feature among the Dunhuang frescos.

Water art paints by dispersing oil pigment on water. Like sand art, its simplicity allows a boundless space for creativity, and is also very expressive on a closed up computer screen. With a strong connection from traditional Chinese calligraphy and ink dispersion style painting, the art requires very high technique and is definitely unique.
