“I’d rather die, if I can’t live life to the fullest!”

A take on the “Brits Got Talents” show that made Susan Boyle an international hit to China, the “2010 China’s Got Talent” show is in its full swing on both Shanghai’s Dragon TV and on Tudou.com.

In this show, a 23-year-old young man named Liu Wei from Beijing walks on to stage with a calm demeanor and a subtle confidence. He has no arms but is there to give his best piano performance to the crowd and judges.  Using his feet, he amazes the audience with his piano performance and leaves them speechless.

When judges ask how long  and how difficult it was for Liu to learn how to play the piano, he describes the challenge and the cramps and painful chafing of the feet while learning the piano since turning 19. He explains that the challenge and the pain of this was nothing after surviving a major electricity shock that almost cost his life.  When asked how he sees himself as different from other people? A belief — “I’d rather die, if  I can’t live life to the fullest!”

The Chinese Talent Show began as just a show inspired by Brits Got Talent, but moments like this have given a national audience in China a glimpse of peoples’ lives and stories that are moving and inspiration at the same time.  The “2010 China Got Talents” show runs simultaneously on both Dragon TV and Tudou.com, where users can submit their talent show video to Tudou for initial contest consideration till the end of September.
