Tudou Debuts Its Second Original Drama “Utopia Office”‎

After the hit success of the first Tudou “made-for-Internet” drama series in October 2010, Tudou, a leading video website in China, is launching its second Tudou “made-for-Internet” drama series “Utopia Office” tonight on www.tudou.com.  Consistently targeted to the young, affluent, urban and educated Chinese audience, “Utopia Office” story can be described as Fringe.  The original drama series tell stories of a team of young scientists commissioned to tackle not crime, but one and another mind-tangling science challenge in each episode. “Utopia Office” was fully planned, written, produced and marketed by an in-house team at Tudou, as part of Tudou’s “Orange Box” original production initiative in spring 2010. 

“Utopia Office” is debuting tonight April 22, 2011 on www.tudou.com.  The drama will present 12 episodes and run two episodes per week.  Most of the actors and actresses are fresh and edgy new faces.  In the sci-fi adventure drama, the young scientists’ team has to resolve problems such as to stop a vicious mobile phone virus, to create a powerful noise reduction device, to build a time machine, and even deal with aliens.  The techno title song is created by music director Chien Yao, a famous song writer and producer in the Greater China region, and is sung by Angela Chang, a Taiwan-based pop singer who was also one of the 2010 Shanghai Expo celebrity ambassadors.

The first Tudou Original “That Love Comes” aired in October 2011 was selected as Advertising Age China’s 2010 top 10 branded content case studies partnering with AB-Inv Budweiser brand introducing its lime-flavored beer “BudLime” product to the Chinese consumers.  For “Utopia Office,” Tudou worked closely with Nokia for its sleek E7 smart phone integration into the drama’s plot and placement, as well as with Toshiba for its laptop product line placement

Panlong Yunhai Enters Into Partnership with Tudou

Panlong Yunhai, a traditional Chinese pharmaceutical company based in Yunnan, China, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Tudou in their first mega move to online media marketing. The cooperation will register at the 10 million yuan level, an unprecedented amount for a company associated with traditional medicine to invest in an Internet giant. Panlong Yunhai states that their motivation for the partnership comes from confidence in the brand recognition as Tudou as a renowned entertainment marketing platform.

Panlong Yunhai’s shift to online media marks a renewal in their cultural mission as well as a focus on a young and active customer base. With the view that modern life is stressful and a risk on health, the Vice President of Panlong Yunhai, Yu Bin, stated, ”Panlong Yunhai extends a message to revitalize the responsibility to human health through extensive and profound Chinese culture and medicine.” The theme of the company’s restructuring plan in conjunction with Tudou is, ”Enjoy the easy life, the net to win an unlimited future”. The main focus is on detoxification and healthy living with the aid of Panlong Yunhai’s most popular product, the Paiduyangyan (literally ”de-tox and beautify capsule”) which has reached over 7.0 billion in cumulative sales.

The partnership press conference resulted in the launch of the ”Detox Beauty Championship” event. The competition will consist of a call for independently made ”detox recipe” videos that align with Panlong Yunhai’s aim. Filmmakers will upload their videos to Tudou.com where users will vote for their favorite selection announced in late May. In a second phase of marketing collaboration, Panlong Yunhai has announced that they will sponsor Tudou’s new original drama ”That Love Comes 2” releasing fall 2011.

Tudou Brings Hit Disney TV Series to Users in China

Tudou, China’s leading online video website www.tudou.com, has announced an agreement with Disney Media Distribution to bring popular U.S. TV series including “Criminal Minds,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Cougar Town,” and “Lost” to the Chinese online video audience.
